Cinematic Mod 1

What is Cinematic Mod?

The Cinematic Modification adds Hires-Textures to all human characters and some non-human characters (and the vending machine of course).
It replaces the original HL2 music with a more classic score in the style of large Hollywood productions. More orchestral, more ambient, and more powerful in the action-sequences.
It adds a new weapons-balancing and strengthens all the weapons to a more realistic level. No more firing numerous rounds at the combines; kill them with 3 to 5 direct hits, just like in real-life combat, but beware: Your opponent's weapons are comparable. After 3 to 5 direct hits (or 1 direct headshot) you *will* be killed.

Additional Info for users of the FAKEFACTORY HiRes Packs 1.0 to 1.04: This pack combines all the FakeFactory HiRes Packs together, fixes some glitches in several textures and adds some new ones. Just override the already installed textures with the new ones in this modification.

The facemaps of the main-characters are coming with full 2048 x 2048 pixels facemaps - all others civilians/squad-members with 1024 x 1024 pixels. This is because, you'll never get close enough to the civilians or squad-members to see the full resolution of a massive 2048px texture. Even a 1024px facemap needs at least a 1600 x 1200 game-resolution to take full effect. Remember: You'll never get the full quality of the textures below a 1600 x 1200 game-resolution.

Requirements

Half-Life2 installed
A graphics-card, that can handle 2048 x 2048 pixel textures (any DirectX9 card should be okay).
Plenty of RAM (you will see some ingame-stuttering with less than 1 GB ram)

Installation

Copy the 'FAKEFACTORY_Cinematic' and the 'fakefactory_cinematic_german' Folder to your <path to SteamApps>/SourceMods/ folder.

Start a new game, choose 'Third Party Games -> FAKEFACTORY Cinematic Mod' and enjoy a new Half-Life 2 Singleplayer experience.

First Run will take significant longer, because the source-engine builds the audio-cache files.

Installation for Garry's Mod

If you want to use the new Hires-Textures with Garry's Mod, copy all content inside the 'materials' folder (you'll find this inside the FAKEFACTORY_Cinematic dir) to the according folder in Garry's mod, usually: <path to SteamApps>/SourceMods/gmod/materials

Legal info

The sound files are from several free sources, i.e. film-soundtrack-teasers, and copyright-free to my knowledge. I cut, edited, enhanced the samples teaser-quality to a satisfyingly level and re-arranged them to fit the overall sound theme for the new HL2 score. The textures are self-made with Valves Artwork as a base for enhancements. If you want to use my textures for further improvements, feel free to do so. But be so kind, to give credits to me.

Installation

Close STEAM
Start setup.exe
After installation has finished restart STEAM

What exactly will Setup.exe do?

Setup.exe reads the current Sourcemod folder path from your registry
Setup.exe installs the MOD to the right folder (HL2 and EP1 version)
Setup.exe install a shortcut to the new Alyx Construction Kit and sets a registry entry (HKEY_CURRENT_USERSOFTWAREFILEMAKER)
The Uninstaller will remove the entire Cinematic Mod and the Alyx Construction Kit registry entry.

Alyx Contruction Kit (RC)

The ACK is a Release Candidate, that will help you in select and install the various Alyx variations (other characters in future).

Start the Alyx Construction Kit.exe and choose your prefered model. You can browse and install the models with just a buttonpress inside the ACK for both HL2 and EP1.

Technical

As of version 3 the Cinematic Mod uses Base Source Engine 2. This leads to numerous advantages, like higher possible global polycount (for more Highpoly models in future versions) or faster overall-performance.

But the new engine has some minor disadvantages…

First of all you have to start a new game or new chapter, because the BSP -Files (Maps) are different.
The new engine isn't fully backward compatible with HL2's original content. I had to remove two Razortrains from two maps for compatibility with the new engine. (It doesn't affect gameplay). The trains would cause the engine to kick in some kind of super-stutterbug with final crash, so i had to erase this two suckers.
The Base Source Engine 2 cannot access non-shared CFG's, like HL2's foreign language CFG files. Therefore the audio-language is allways English, only the onscreen-language is correctly translated.

Most of you are using English audio anyway, but all other users can fix this for themself: Extract the content of 'Half-Life 2_xxx.cfg' (xxx = german or french etc.) with CFGScape (included) and copy the extracted content to the mods language - folder.
